Special Interest Groups (SIGS)

A number of Sistas have contacted us regarding becoming an Area Coordinator, and wanted to know what's involved. As a DigitalSistas Network Area Coordinator you will coordinate and develop on-line and off-line activities for our Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in a geographic area where you live, and / or work. These activities will address specific technology issues facing African American women today and in the future.

So, what are SIGs? SIGs are Special Interest Groups that are focused exclusively on one facet of the business listed in the channels section of our website. What is your area of interest? The SIG will be the place on our site where those with similar interests gather to discuss issues and challenges they face in their sector of the business. It will be a place to discuss the pros and cons of a new product or process, report on news in the industry, and career opportunities or problems in that sector.

As a DigitalSistas Network SIG Area Coordinator, you will be responsible for working with co-coordinators in your specific geographic area to:

      • Develop, acquire, and submit content for your specific SIG Channel;
      • Examine trends and issues for your specific SIG;
      • Monitor responses posted from discussion groups on your SIG Channel;
      • Identify and recommend women for DigitalSistas.net "Spotlight" feature;
      • Support establishing local and regional DigitalSistas.net Chapters;
      • Coordinate national / international outreach activities for your SIG.

Content on the website will be changed twice a month. To facilitate the process, all SIGs will have co-coordinators, with each being responsible for coordinating content for their sector once a month.

As a DigitalSistas Network Area Coordinator you will be responsible for coordinating activities in your specific geographic area, and linking to and coordinating with SIG Coordinators as appropriate. Here too, because some areas are larger than others, co-coordinators are recommended to assure managability. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Generating interest among friends and professional associates
  • Coordinate development for membership in DigitalSistas.net
  • Planning and hosting events as part of DigitalSistas-Unplugged
  • Networking with key technology groups in your area
  • Serve as primary liaison with SIG Coordinators and the DigitalSistas.net Executive Team
  • Advise the Executive Team of potential opportunities in your area which will:
  • Increase recognition of the DigitalSistas.net online community
  • Identify content providers
  • Contribute content to the website
  • Assist with fundraising efforts

As a DigitalSistas Network SIG or Area Coordinator, you will receive global exposure, free marketing, and free membership to DigitalSistas.net. We know of no better way to increase your professional exposure and marketability than by becoming a DigitalSista!

We are looking for women who have strong organizing skills, a keen interest in technology, enjoy networking with other women, are innovative, able to travel, ready to be part of a new start-up, and want to be on a challenging and winning team.

If you think being an Area Coordinator is for you and you are interested in helping to make DigitalSistas.net the place to be, email us your resume and include a brief paragraph about your skills.
